\textit{M. Green} and \textit{P. Griffiths} [in: Differential geometry, Proc. int. Chern Symp., Berkeley 1979, 41--74 (1980; Zbl 0508.32010)] conjectured that every projective algebraic variety \(X\) of general type contains a certain proper algebraic subvariety \(Y\subsetneq X\) such that for any nonconstant entire holomorphic curve \(f:C\rightarrow X\) one has \(f(C)\subset Y\). [\textit{S. Diverio} et al., Invent. Math. 180, No. 1, 161--223 (2010; Zbl 1192.32014)] made the one of the first significant steps towards the effective Green-Griffiths conjecture, confirming the statement when \(X\subset \mathbb P^{n+1}\), \(n\geq2\), is a generic hypersurface of degree \(d\geq 2^{n^5}\). In the paper under review, the authors establish that generic algebraic hypersurfaces of the projective space satisfy the Green-Griffiths conjecture, as well as their complements, with an improved lower degree bounds \(d\geq(\sqrt{n}\log n)^n\) (Green-Griffiths conjecture predicts the optimal lower degree bound \(d\geq n+3\)). A complex variety is Brody hyperbolic if admits no nonconstant holomorphic maps from \(\mathbb C\). \textit{S. Kobayashi} [Hyperbolic manifolds and holomorphic mappings. New York, NY: Marcel Dekker, Inc. (1970; Zbl 0207.37902)] conjectured that a general hypersurface in \(\mathbb P^n\) of sufficiently large degree is hyperbolic. \textit{E. Riedl} and \textit{D. Yang} [J. Algebr. Geom. 31, No. 1, 1--12 (2022; Zbl 1484.14016)] showed that any solution to the Green-Griffiths conjecture in all dimensions \(n\) for hypersurfaces of degrees \(d\geq\mathbf{d}_{\mathrm{GG}}(n)\) implies a solution to the Kobayashi conjecture in all dimensions \(n\) for hypersurfaces of degrees \(d\geq\mathbf{d}_{\mathrm{K}}(n):=\mathbf{d}_{\mathrm{GG}}(2n)\). Therefore, the authors also establish the Kobayashi conjecture for generic algebraic hypersurfaces of the projective space, as well as their complements, with an improved lower degree bound.
