Given a smoothly bounded pseudoconvex domain, then the following facts are equivalent: \begin{itemize} \item[1)] subelliptic estimates holds, \item[2)] \(\Omega\) has finite type in the sense of D'Angelo, \item[3)] \((\Omega,d_{\Omega})\) is Gromov hyperbolic, where \(d_{\Omega}\) is the complete Kähler-Einstein metric constructed in [\textit{N. Mok} and \textit{S.-T. Yau}, Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 39, Part 1, 41--59 (1983; Zbl 0526.53056)] \end{itemize} Equivalence of (1) and (2) is a consequence of [\textit{D. Catlin}, Ann. Math. (2) 117, 147--171 (1983; Zbl 0552.32017); \textit{D. Catlin}, Ann. Math. (2) 126, 131--191 (1987; Zbl 0627.32013)]. The equivalence between (2) and (3) was proved in [the author, Math. Ann. 365, No. 3--4, 1425--1498 (2016; Zbl 1379.53053)]. The goal of the paper is to study bounded convex domains with non-smooth boundary. In this situation, the first main result of the paper is that (3) implies (1) but the converse is not true in general. The second main result is a necessary and sufficient condition for \((\Omega,d_{\Omega})\) to be Gromov hyperbolic; this theorem gives an abstract characterization, but in many concrete cases one can use it to quickly determine if a domain is Gromov hyperbolic or not and furthermore the author discusses corollaries and consequences of this results.
