Conway and aperiodic tilings (Q2153971)

This is a paper from the special issue of Math. Intell. dedicated to John Conway, who passed away in 2020 from covid. The author worked with Conway for around ten years. This article is an entertaining, quick, and deep dive into aperiodic tilings. The author does a fine job at telling us about Conway's very original eccentric, creative, sometimes startling approach to the subject as well as giving us a glimpse into the ancient (1961!) history of the study of aperiodic tilings in general. Highly recommended.
