The authors define a certain operator as a linear combination of two differential operators of neighboring (integer) orders with complex weights. The definition is formulated in an ambiguous manner, so its exact nature is not entirely clear, but in any case the reviewer disagrees with the authors' opinion that the operator can be considered to be a fractional derivative. Based on this operator, the authors then construct some interpolation schemes whose properties bear resemblance to spline interpolation techniques. Some connections to Lie groups and the group \(\mathrm{SO}(n)\) are discussed as well. The paper does not contain a single theorem.
