The authors formulate and prove a bridge theorem that includes the classical Morse-Sard theorem and its further extensions by Dubovitski and Federer. Intuitively, the main result says that, the more precise is the information we receive on the measure of the image of the critical set, the less precisely the preimages are described, and vice versa. The result is new even for the classical \(C^k\)-case; and also covers the Sobolev classes of mappings with minimal integrability assumptions, as well as the fractional Sobolev spaces. The proofs require previous results by Y. Yomdin, and by the authors, joint with J. Bourgain and J. Kristensen.
