Consider a pair \((S, S_0)\) where \(S=G/P\) is a rational homogeneous manifold of Picard number \(1\) and \(S_0\) a Schubert variety of \(S\). [\textit{J. Hong} and \textit{N. Mok}, J. Algebr. Geom. 22, No. 2, 333--362 (2013; Zbl 1274.14061)] completely determined homologically rigid pairs \((S, S_0)\) when \(S_0\) is smooth or homogeneous. Recall that the pair is said to be homologically rigid if any subvariety of \(S\) having the same homology class as \(S_0\) must be a translate of \(S_0\) by the automorphism group of \(S\). In the paper under review, the authors investigate a stronger form of rigidity called Schur rigidity and prove that the pair \((S, S_0)\) is Schur rigid when \(S_0\) is non-linear smooth. Here the pair \((S, S_0)\) is said to be Schur rigid if any subvariety of \(S\) with homology class equal to a multiple of the homology class of \(S_0\) must be a sum of translates of \(S_0\); \(S_0\) is said to be linear if it is a linear subspace of a ambient projective space \(\mathbb P^N\) of \(S\) where the embedding of \(S\) into \(\mathbb P^N\) is induced by the ample generator of the Picard group of \(S\).
