The author studies the regularity of proper maps between domains of possibly different dimensions. In particular, the author looks at the cases when one of these domains is a bounded symmetric domain (note that similar results for spheres can be seen in [\textit{X. Huang} and \textit{S. Ji}, Invent. Math. 145, No. 2, 219--250 (2001; Zbl 1038.32018)] and [\textit{X. Huang} et al., Contemp. Math. 368, 267--292 (2005; Zbl 1243.32015)]). The study of the regularity of proper maps leads to further results in the form of the reflection principle. The author purses these consequences in this setting too.
