Let \(X\) be a measure space and \(\mathcal{H}\) be a separable Hilbert space, the general theory of multiplication-invariant (MI) subspaces of a vector-valued space \(L^2(X; \mathcal{H})\) was first developed by \textit{M. Bownik} and \textit{K. A. Ross} [J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 21, No. 4, 849--884 (2015; Zbl 1328.42006)]. In this paper, the authors develop the theory of MI operators and study its applications for abelian group frames and translation-invariant spaces. They study the properties of MI operators acting on subspaces of the vector-valued space \(L^2(X; \mathcal{H})\) and characterize such operators in terms of range functions by showing that there exists a natural isomorphism between the category of MI spaces with MI operators and the category of measurable range functions with measurable range operators as morphisms. Then, the authors show that the global properties of MI operators are reflected by local pointwise properties of the corresponding range operators including the spectral properties and functional calculus of MI operators. Also, they show that the global properties of Bessel systems of multiplications are reflected by pointwise properties holding uniformly almost everywhere and classify systems of multiplications up to unitary equivalence in terms of range operators. They establish several results about frames generated by multiplications in \(L^2(X; \mathcal{H})\) including the classification of frames of multiplications with respect to unitary equivalence by measurable fields of Gramians. Further, the authors characterize invariant subspaces, intertwining operators, and Bessel systems obtained as orbits of admissible representations and show a classification of Bessel systems and (Parseval) frames generated by the action of a given LCA group. Finally, they give applications of their results in the study of abelian group frames and translation-invariant operators acting on subspaces of \(L^2(\mathcal{G})\), where \(\mathcal{G}\) is a locally compact group and show how their results give a unifying approach in the study of shift-invariant (SI) spaces, which are translation-invariant by an abelian group, and SI operators acting on these spaces.
