Cluster algebras were introduced in [\textit{S. Fomin} and \textit{A. Zelevinsky}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 15, No. 2, 497--529 (2002; Zbl 1021.16017)]. Quantum cluster algebras were introduced in [\textit{A. Berenstein} and \textit{A. Zelevinsky}, Adv. Math. 195, No. 2, 405--455 (2005; Zbl 1124.20028)]. An important question in both cases is whether every cluster variable can be written as a Laurent polynomial with nonnegative integer coefficients in the cluster variables appearing in a fixed cluster. The main result of this paper is that the positivity conjecture holds for a quantum cluster algebra, provided it contains an acyclic seed (i.e. a seed whose quiver contains no oriented cycles). The result is proved using an appropriate monoidal categorification. An additional result shows that, up to appropriate powers of \(q\), for certain quantum coordinate rings, the quantum cluster monomials are contained in the dual canonical basis.
