An infinite sequence in \([0,1)\) is said to have Poissonian pair correlations, if for each \(s>0\) the pair correlation function \[ \frac{1}{N} \# \left \{ 1 \leq i \neq j \leq N : \| x_i - x_j \| \leq \frac{s}{N} \right \} \] tends to \(2s\) for \(N\rightarrow \infty\). Inspired by the fact that the well-known Kronecker sequence, \((\{ n \alpha\})_{n \in \mathbb{N}}\) with irrational \(\alpha\), does not have Poissonian pair correlations for any real \(\alpha\), the authors define the so called \textit{finite gap property} for infinite sequences. In Theorem 1, it is shown that if an infinite sequence has the finite gap property, then it does not have Poissonian pair correlations. In Section 2, the authors give three further examples of classes of sequences that have the finite gap property, i.e., LS-sequences, quasi-arithmetic sequences of degree 1 and \((t,1)\)-sequences. Furthermore, the authors prove two additional negative results in Theorem 2 and Theorem 3. First, it is shown that sequences \((\{ b^n \alpha\})_{n \in \mathbb{N}}\), in which \(b\geq 2\) and \(\alpha\) is related to infinite de Bruijn words [\textit{N. G. de Bruijn}, Proc. Akad. Wet. Amsterdam 49, 758--764 (1946; Zbl 0060.02701)] do not have Poissonian pair correlations. Second, the same is shown for the sequence \((\{ 2^n \alpha_{2,3}\})_{n \in \mathbb{N}}\), in which \(\alpha_{2,3}\) denotes the Stoneham number [\textit{R. G. Stoneham}, Acta Arith. 22, 371--389 (1973; Zbl 0276.10029)].
