Let \(\mathcal{L}_N\) denote the Lebesgue measure on \(\mathbb{R}^N\). A function \(f:\Omega:\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^N\) defined on \(\Omega\subseteq\mathbb{R}^N\) is said to satisfy the Luzin \(N\) property if for every \(E\subseteq\Omega\) we have \(\mathcal{L}_N(E)=0\) \(\;\Rightarrow\;\) \(\mathcal{L}_N(f(E))=0\), and the Luzin \(N^{-1}\) property if for every \(E\subseteq\Omega\) we have \(\mathcal{L}_N(f(E))=0\) \(\;\Rightarrow\;\) \(\mathcal{L}_N(E)=0\). The authors construct a homeomorphism \(g\in C^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^N,\mathbb{R}^N)\) not satisfying the Luzin \(N^{-1}\) property such that \(g(x)=x\) outside \((0,1)^N\).
