The authors investigate the relationships between the distributions appearing in the study of ergodic averages of parabolic flows [\textit{L. Flaminio} and \textit{G. Forni}, Duke Math. J. 119, No. 3, 465--526 (2003; Zbl 1044.37017); Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 26, No. 2, 409--433 (2006; Zbl 1087.37026); J. Mod. Dyn. 1, No. 1, 37--60 (2007; Zbl 1114.37004)] and the ones appearing in the study of the statistical properties of hyperbolic dynamical systems (i.e., the eigendistributions of the transfer operator). They prove that the growth of ergodic averages (and the characterization of coboundary regularity) of a parabolic flow is controlled by the eigenvalues of a suitable transfer operator associated to the renormalizing dynamics.
