Rational curves or higher-dimensional hypersurfaces play a crucial role in algebraic geometry and computer aided geometric design. There are two basic problems related to rational varieties: how to compute a rational parametrization from defining equations (parametrization), and on the other hand how to determine the equations defining the variety from a rational parametrization (implicitization). Moving curves are a tool for implicitizing rational curves. And the ideal of moving curves is closely related to the Rees algebra of the parametrization; actually it is the kernel of an epimorphism from a polynomial ring onto the Rees algebra. For the case of monomial parametrizations, a set of minimal generators for the ideal of moving curves is determined, which is also a Gröbner basis w.r.t. a certain ordering. From such data, a minimal bigraded resolution of the Rees algebra and the associated Betti numbers of the resolution can be determined. Furthermore, the relation between pencils of adjoints of the monomial plane curve and the defining ideal of the Rees algebra are investigated.
