The authors discuss a class of nonlinear, nonautonomus evolution equations in a possibly infinite-dimensional Banach space. Roughly speaking, they treat \(u_\epsilon'(t)=\epsilon g_t(u_\epsilon(t))\) for some nonlinear function \(g\) assuming values in some Banach space \(X\). \(g\) is supposed to be periodic in \(t\) and, for every \(t\), \(g_t(\cdot)\) is assumed to being analytic. The authors seek a so-called stroboscopic averaging of the solution \(u\) of the differential equation, that is, up to a small error, \(u\) is to be represented as a composition of the solution operator corresponding to an autonomous equation and a smooth change of variables. Though technically challenging, they accomplish their aim in Theorem 2.7 and eventually apply their results to an equation, which itself is related to a nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The authors also discuss some specific properties of stroboscopic averaging and underline their theoretical findings by means of numerical examples.
