This paper is concerned with the equation \[ x''+ax^+ -bx^- +g(x)=p(t), \] where the number \(\frac{1}{\sqrt{a}}+\frac{1}{\sqrt{b}}\) is rational, the function \(g(x)\) is sublinear at infinity and \(p(t)\) is \(2\pi\)-periodic. In the last twenty years, the resonance phenomena associated to this equation have been analyzed by several authors. Different possible behaviours have been described: all solutions are bounded, periodic and unbounded solutions coexist, all solutions escape to infinity,... Up to now, the conditions employed to detect these types of behaviour have been related to the period function of the autonomous equation (\(p\equiv 0\)) and to a sort of generalized Fourier coefficients for \(p(t)\) which was already defined by Dancer and Fučik. The present paper sharpens some of the known conditions for the existence of unbounded or periodic solutions.
