Ten years ago, and motivated by a quantitative version of the Bishop-Phelps theorem given by \textit{B. Bollobás} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 2, 181--182 (1970; Zbl 0217.45104)], \textit{M. D. Acosta} et al. [J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)] defined the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property (BPBp in short) as a quantitative way in which the set of norm attaining operators can be dense in the space of all operators between two Banach spaces. Since then, there has been an extensive study of this property and of its possible extensions, see [\textit{R. Aron} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 367, No. 9, 6085--6101 (2015; Zbl 1331.46008)] and references therein. In the paper under review, the authors study properties of the same kind for multilinear forms. In particular, it is characterized when the pair \((\ell_1(X),Y)\) has the BPBp for bilinear forms and it is shown that infinite-dimensional \(L_1(\mu)\) spaces fail the BPBp for numerical radius for multilinear mappings. As a needed tool, the authors prove that the norm and the numerical radius of a multilinear map coincide for all \(L_1(\mu)\) spaces, extending the result of \textit{Y. S. Choi} and \textit{S. G. Kim} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 54, No. 1, 135--147 (1996; Zbl 0858.47005)], where it was proven for \(\ell_1\).
