The problems with the \(p(x)\)-Laplacian are more involved than those with the \(p\)-Laplacian, when \(p\) is constant, because the exponent variable operator is not homogeneous. This paper deals with the boundary blow-up solutions of an elliptic problem containing the \(p(x)\)-Laplacian and a large perturbation expressed through the gradient of the solution. By making suitable rearrangements in the elliptic equation, the authors extend previous results obtained in [\textit{Q. Zhang} and \textit{D. Motreanu}, Adv. Differ. Equations 21, 699--734 (2016; Zbl 1375.35144)], where the perturbation in the solution was large and the perturbation with the gradient term was small. A description of the boundary blow-up behavior is also examined.
