The \(n\)th symmetric product of a smooth manifold \(M\) is the quotient of the Cartesian product \(M^n\) by the action of the symmetric group \(\Sigma_n\) by permuting factors. If, in addition, a finite group \(G\) acts on \(M\), then the semidirect product \(G^n \rtimes \Sigma_n\), called a wreath product of \(G\), acts naturally on \(M^n\). The orbit space \(M/G\) is a global quotient orbifold, i.e., a quotient by action of a finite group. The orbit space of \(M^n\) by the action of \(G^n \rtimes \Sigma_n\) is called a wreath symmetric product orbifold. Many orbifolds, for example the weighted projective spaces, however, are not global quotients. In this paper the authors consider wreath symmetric products of orbifolds that are quotients of a smooth manifold by a smooth, locally free action of a connected, compact Lie group. They present generating functions for extensions of multiplicative invariants of these wreath symmetric products in terms of orbifold sector decompositions. In particular, they compute the Euler and Euler-Satake characteristics for a class of weighted projective spaces. Their work generalizes results known for global quotient orbifolds to all closed, effective orbifolds.
