Different types of algebras like associative algebras, commutative algebras, Lie algebras, and others, can be defined in terms of operads, many of them are quadratic, Koszul operads. Since the work of \textit{J.-L. Loday} [Enseign. Math., II. Sér. 39, 269--293 (1993; Zbl 0806.55009)] many new types of algebras were discovered, for instance dialgebras, trialgebras, and more recently quadri-algebras, ennea-algebras, NS-algebras, octo-algebra,\dots The aim of the paper under review is to provide the description of these types of algebras in terms of operads. The operads considered here are assumed to be splitting associative, binary, quadratic, regular (ABQR for short). The authors introduce two kinds of tensor products, which are similar but different to those of Manin-Ginzburg-Kapranov tensor products of operads [\textit{V. Ginzburg} and \textit{M. Kapranov}, Duke Math. J. 76, 203--272 (1994; Zbl 0855.18006)]. These newly introduced tensor products are called the black-box tensor product and the white-box tensor product. Then the authors show that the recently discovered types of algebras can be described in terms of different tensor products of the simpler types, for instance, the operad for quadri-algebras is the black-box tensor-square of the operad for dendri-form dialgebras, the operad for octo-algebras is the black-box tensor-cube of the operad for dendriform dialgebras.
