The paper offers a generalization of the A. Connes index theorem for etale grupoids and Connes-Moscovici higher \(\Gamma \)-index theorem (see \textit{A. Connes} book `Non-commutative Geometry', Academic Press (1994; Zbl 0818.46076) and also papers by V. Nistor and J. Cuntz cited in this paper). In order to put things in context let us consider the following situation. Let \(\pi :P\rightarrow B\) be a fibration with Riemannian complete Spin\(^{c}\)-manifolds as fibres, and let \(D\) be a family of fiberwise Dirac-type Spin\(^{c}\)-operators acting on a \(\mathbb{Z}/2\)-graded bundle \(E\). Assume that an etale groupoid \(G\) acts on the fibration \(P\) and the operator \(D\) is \(G\)-invariant. Then the operator \(D\) defines an element of the equivariant \(KK\)-theory \(KK^{G}(C_{0}(P),C_{0}(B))\) which projects onto an element in \(KK(C_{0}(P)\triangleleft G,C_{0}(B)\triangleleft G)\) using the canonical map. This last element can be represented by a quasihomomorphism \(\psi _{D}\), and this quasihomomorphism in turn defines a p-summable quasihomomorphism of smooth cross-products \(C_{0}^{\infty }(P)\triangleleft G\) and \(C_{0}^{\infty }(B)\triangleleft G\). Then the bivariant Chern character Ch\((D)\) is defined as a morphism of complexes \(CC_{\ast }(C_{0}^{\infty }(P)\triangleleft G)\rightarrow CC_{\ast }(C_{0}^{\infty }(B)\triangleleft G)\) which induces a morphism of the corresponding cyclic cohomology. On the other hand, the map \(\pi \) induces a map \(\pi ^{\ast }:H_{\tau }^{\ast }(B_{G})\rightarrow H_{\tau }^{\ast }(P_{G})\) of cohomology groups (twisted by the relevant orientation bundles) of quotients. Using the equivariant \(\widehat{A}\)-genus \(\widehat{A}_{G}(TP/B)\) of the vertical tangent bundle of \(P\) and the equivariant twisting Chern character Ch\(_{G}(E/S)\) of the bundle \(E\) one can define a map \(\widetilde{\pi }^{\ast }:H_{\tau }^{\ast }(B_{G})\rightarrow H_{\tau }^{\ast }(P_{G})\) by \(\widetilde{\pi }^{\ast }(x)=(2\pi i)^{(\dim B-\dim P)/2}\widehat{A}_{G}(TP/B)\text{Ch}_{G}(E/S)\pi ^{\ast }(x)\). Moreover, there is the Connes injective map \(\Phi :H_{\tau }^{\ast }(P_{G})\rightarrow HC^{\ast }(C_{0}^{\infty }(P)\triangleleft G)\) and similarly for \(B\). Now, the main result of the paper states that \(\Phi \circ \widetilde{\pi }^{\ast }=\Phi \circ \text{Ch}(D)^{t}\), which gives a tool for computing the values of the Chern character on the image of the Connes map.
