Let \((\Omega,\Sigma)\) be a measurable space. Let \(\mu:\Sigma\to X\) be a Banach space-valued vector measure and \(Y\) be a Banach space. Consider the Köthe-Bochner space \(L^1(\mu,Y)\), defined as the space of all (\(\mu\)-a.e. classes of) strongly \(\mu\)-measurable functions \(f\) such that the function \(w\mapsto \|f(w)\|_Y\) belongs to \(X(\mu)\), with the norm \(\|f\|_{L^1(\mu,Y)}:=\big\| \| f\|_Y(w)\big\|_{X(\mu)}\). The following seminorm is defined on the tensor product \(L^1(\mu)\otimes Y\): \[ \alpha_\mu(u):= \sup_{x^*\in B_{X^*}}\inf\{\sum_{i=1}^n \|h_i\|_{L^1(|\langle \mu,x^*\rangle|)}\|y_i\|_Y: u=\sum_{i=1}^n h_i\otimes Y\}, \] where the infimum is taken over all the representations of \(u=\sum_{i=1}^n h_i\otimes Y\in L^1(\mu)\otimes Y\). The first main theorem of the paper gives a nice representation of the Köthe-Bochner space as \(L^1(\mu,Y)=L^1(\mu)\hat\otimes_{\alpha_\mu} Y\). The authors also obtain a good representation of the dual space of \(L^1(\mu,Y)\) in terms of operators that factor through \(L^1\)-spaces of scalar positive finite measures. As applications, alternative descriptions of both, the Köthe-Bochner space and its dual space, are provided.
