Let \(R\) be a ring with center \(Z(R)\), and let \(\sigma\) be an endomorphism of \(R\). An additive map \(\delta\colon R\to R\) is called a \(\sigma\)-derivation if \(\delta(xy)=\sigma(x)\delta(y)+\delta(x)y\) for all \(x,y\in R\). The principal result of the paper, which generalizes a result of the reviewer and \textit{M. N. Daif} [Can. Math. Bull. 37, No. 4, 443-447 (1994; Zbl 0820.16031)], reads as follows: Let \(R\) be semiprime, \(I\) a nonzero right ideal of \(R\) and \(\sigma\) an automorphism of \(R\). If there exist \(\sigma\)-derivations \(\delta_1\) and \(\delta_2\) on \(R\) such that \([\delta_1(x),\delta_2(y)]=[x,y]\) for all \(x,y\in I\), then \([\sigma(I),I]=\{0\}\). Moreover, if \(\sigma(I)\subseteq I\), then \(\sigma(I)\subseteq Z(R)\); and if \(R\) is prime, then \(R\) is commutative.
