    Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) (\(N\geq 2\)) be a smooth bounded domain containing two open regions \(\Omega_N\) and \(\Omega_p\) such that \(\overline{\Omega}_N \cap \overline{\Omega}_p = \emptyset\). The authors study a Dirichlet problem of the form \[\begin{cases} -\Delta_{\Phi}u(x)= f(x,u(x)) \mbox{ in } \Omega,\\ u|_{\partial \Omega}=0, \end{cases}\tag{P}\] where \(\Phi(x,t)=\int_0^{|t|}\varphi(x,s)s ds\) is a generalized \(N\)-function, \(\varphi:\Omega \times [0,+\infty) \to [0,+\infty)\) and \(f:\Omega \times \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}\) are continuous functions satisfying useful properties, and \(\Delta_\Phi u= \operatorname{div}(\varphi(x,|\nabla u|)\nabla u)\) is the \(\Phi\)-Laplace operator. Thus, the authors develop a variational approach to establish the existence of nontrivial solutions to (P), whose main ingredients are as follows: \begin{itemize} \item[1.] Lions concentration compactness principle to get auxiliary a priori estimate of certain integral terms. \item[2.] Trudinger-Moser type inequalities to control certain integrals involving the exponential growth of the nonlinearity \(f\). \item[3.] Mountain pass theorem without Palais-Smale condition to conclude the existence of nontrivial solutions in a suitable Musielak-Sobolev space. \end{itemize}
