The author proves that in every closed Riemannian 3-manifold \((M,g)\), the genus of an embedded CMC (constant mean curvature) surface can be bounded only in terms of its index and area, independently of the value of its mean curvature (Theorem 2). In Theorem 3 he shows that if \(M\) has finite fundamental group, the genus and area of any non-minimal embedded CMC surface can be bounded in term of its index and a lower bound for its mean curvature. The main ingredient used in proofs, applied in the situation of dimension \(3\), is the structural theorem done by \textit{O. Chodosh} et al. [Invent. Math. 209, No. 3, 617--664 (2017; Zbl 1378.53072)] that provides a precise local picture of how a sequence of closed embedded minimal hypersurfaces with uniformly bounded index (and volume if the ambient dimension is greater than three) in a Riemannian manifold of dimension at most seven can degenerate.
