The aim of this paper is to study arbitrary left non-degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. In order to do that, the authors introduce an associative algebraic structure, called YD-semitruss, that forms a subclass of the category of semitrusses. They show that all left non-degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation are restrictions of solutions associated to YB-semitrusses (Corollary 2.14). After that, they characterize when the solution \((A,r_A)\) associated to a YB-semitruss is bijective (Theorem 3.1). Finally, in the last section the authors study the additive and multiplicative structure of a YB-semitruss \(A\) that is an epimorphic image of the structure monoid \(M(X,r)\) of a finite left non-degenerate solution \((X,r)\).
