    The notion of ultragraph was defined by \textit{M. Tomforde} [J. Oper. Theory 50, No. 2, 345--368 (2003; Zbl 1061.46048)] and the notion of ultragraph Leavitt path algebra by \textit{M. Imanfar} et al. [Kyungpook Math. J. 60, No. 1, 21--43 (2020; Zbl 1459.16032)], and in terms of skew group rings by \textit{D. Gonçalves} and \textit{D. Royer} [J. Aust. Math. Soc. 109, No. 3, 299--319 (2020; Zbl 1465.16021)]. Let \(\Gamma\) be a group and \(\mathcal{G}\) a topological groupoid. The groupoid \(\mathcal{G}\) is called \(\Gamma\)-graded if \(\mathcal{G}\) can be partitioned by clopen subsets indexed by \(\Gamma\), that is, \(\mathcal{G}=\sqcup_{\gamma\in\Gamma}\mathcal{G}_\gamma\), such that \(\mathcal{G}_{\gamma}\mathcal{G}_{\delta}\subset \mathcal{G}_{\gamma\delta}\) for all \(\gamma, \delta\in\Gamma\). The notion of strongly \(\Gamma\)-graded groupoid follows the standard idea that \(\mathcal{G}_{\gamma}\mathcal{G}_{\delta}= \mathcal{G}_{\gamma\delta}\) for all \(\gamma, \delta\in\Gamma\). Let \(L_K({\mathcal G})\) be an ultragraph Leavitt path \(K\)-algebra associated to the ultragraph \({\mathcal G}\). In the present paper, the authors associate to each finite range ultragraph without sinks, \(\mathcal{G} = (G^0, G^1, r, s)\) a groupoid \(\mathfrak{G}_\mathcal{G}\) which can be endowed with a Hausdorff ample groupoid structure. The topological groupoid \(\mathfrak{G}_\mathcal{G}\) is graded with homogeneous components defined in the paper. The grading on \(\mathfrak{G}_\mathcal{G}\) induces a grading on the Steinberg algebra of \(\mathfrak{G}_\mathcal{G}\) as explained in Theorem 2.2 [\textit{L. O. Clark} and \textit{A. Sims}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 219, No. 6, 2062--2075 (2015; Zbl 1317.16001)]. The authors prove (Theorem 3.4) that for a field \(K\) the Steinberg algebra of \(\mathfrak{G}_\mathcal{G}\) is graded-isomorphic to \(L_K({\mathcal G})\). This realization allows the use of the groupoid approach to obtain structural results about Leavitt path algebras of ultragraphs. Concretely: \begin{itemize} \item[1)] The authors characterize strongly graded ultragraph Leavitt path algebras (Theorem 3.6). \item[2)] They prove that every ultragraph Leavitt path algebra is semiprimitive (Theorem 4.2). \item[3)] They characterize irreducible representations of ultragraph Leavitt path algebras (Theorem 4.7). \item[4)] Using the skew product of groupoids, the authors show that ultragraph Leavitt path algebras are graded von Neumann regular rings (Theorems 4.8 and 4.9). \item[5)] They also show that ultragraph Leavitt path algebras can be realized as Cuntz-Pimsner rings (Theorem 4.11). \end{itemize}
