The authors are concerned with a posteriori error estimation of \(hp\)-discontinuous Galerkin composite finite element method for discretization of second order PDEs. In particular, the authors obtain a computable upper bound on the error, expressed in terms of the underlying discontinuous Galerkin energy norm, also explicit in terms of the dependence on \(h\) and \(p\). Numerical examples using \(h\) and \(hp\) refinement on domains with a large number of holes are presented.
