The paper deals with random ergodic Schrödinger operators. Its main purpose is to formulate criteria on the local perturbations which warrant that localization will ensue in an suitable disorder/energy regime, as a result of quantum Hamiltonians submitted to weak random abstract perturbation. The main contribution is to provide an initial length scale estimate, which is a first step in proving spectral localization via multiscale analysis, for a very wide class of random Hamiltonians with weak disorder. Following history and earlier results, the formulation of the problem and the main results are stated. Some examples covered by this general models are displayed (magnetic field, metric perturbations, boundary deformation) and then one considers deterministic lower bound and Combes-Thomas estimates.
