Let \((\Omega, \mu) \) be a measure space and let \(1<p<\infty\). Assume that \(T: L^p(\Omega)\to L^p(\Omega)\) is a Ritt operator. For any \(\alpha>0\), authors consider the square functions \[ \|x\|_{T,\alpha}=\left\|\left(\sum\limits_{k=1}^{\infty}k^{2\alpha-1}|T^{k-1}(I-T)^{\alpha}x|^2\right)^{\frac12}\right\|_{L^p} \] for any \(x\in L^p(\Omega)\). It is shown that, if \(T\) is an R-Ritt operator, then the square functions \(\| \cdot\|_{T,\alpha}\) are pairwise equivalent, that is, for any \(\alpha,\beta>0\), \( \|x\|_{T,\alpha} \approx \|x\|_{T,\beta}\) for any \(x\in L^p(\Omega)\). Moreover, authors show that \(T\) and its adjoint \(T^*: L^{p^{\prime}}(\Omega)\to L^{p^{\prime}}(\Omega)\) both satisfy uniform estimates \(\|x\|_{T,1}\lesssim \|x\|_{L^p}\) and \(\|y\|_{T^*,1}\lesssim \|y\|_{L^{p^{\prime}}}\) for \(x\in L^p(\Omega)\) and \(y\in L^{p^{\prime}}(\Omega)\) if and only is \(T\) is \(R\)-Ritt and admits a dilation in the following sense: there exist a measure space \(\tilde{\Omega}\), an isomorphism \(U: L^p(\tilde{\Omega})\to L^p(\tilde{\Omega})\) such that \(\{U^n:n\in\mathbb Z\}\) is bounded, as well as two bounded maps \( J: L^p(\Omega) \to L^p(\tilde{\Omega}) \) and \(Q: L^p(\tilde{\Omega})\to L^p(\Omega)\) such that \(T^n=QU^nJ\) for any \(n\geq 0\). In addition, \(p\)-polynomially bounded properties for Ritt operators are considered and analogs of the above results on noncommutative \(L^p\)-spaces are investigated.
