\textit{H. Nakaoka} and \textit{Y. Palu} [Cah. Topol. Géom. Différ. Catég. 60, No. 2, 117--193 (2019; Zbl 1451.18021)] stated that extension closed subcategories of extriangulated categories are extriangulated categories. Inspired by this fact, the authors first considered whether there are similar results in the \(n\)-exangulated category that hold true.\par Let \(\mathcal{C}\) be a Krull-Schmidt \(n\)-exangulated category and \(\mathscr{A}\) be an \(n\)-extension closed subcategory of \(\mathcal{C}\) . Then \(\mathscr{A}\) inherits the \(n\)-exangulated structure from the given \(n\)-exangulated category in a natural way, see Theorem 3.2 for details. This construction gives \(n\)-exangulated categories which are neither \(n\)-exact categories in the sense of Jasso nor \((n+2)\)-angulated categories in the sense of Geiss-Keller-Oppermann in general.\par Let \((\mathcal{C},\Sigma, \Theta)\) be a Krull-Schmidt \((n+2)\)-angulated category and \(\mathscr{A}\) be an \(n\)-extension closed subcategory of \(\mathcal{C}\). Recently, \textit{C. Klapproth} [``\(n\)-exact categories arising from \((n+2)\)-angulated categories'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:2108.04596}] proved that \(\mathscr{A}\) has the structure of an \(n\)-exact category under a natural assumption. \textit{M. Herschend} et al. [J. Algebra 570, 531--586 (2021; Zbl 1506.18015)] gave a description of when an \(n\)-exangulated category can become \(n\)-exact category. Based on these facts, combined with their first main result, the authors gave a sufficient condition on when an \(n\)-exangulated category \(\mathscr{A}\) is an \(n\)-exact category, see Theorem 3.15 for details. It extends Klapproth's work. Moreover, their proof method is to avoid proving that \(\mathscr{A}\) is closed under weak isomorphisms, which is very complicated and difficult.
