The method of suspensions for Cantor dynamical system is a well-known and efficient technique to construct interesting examples of topological dynamics. In some cases it has limitations though. In the paper, the authors establish a new technique, named pseudo-suspensions, which allows them to replace the circle in the suspension construction with a continuum occurring as an invariant set of Handel-Anosov-Katok homeomorphisms. In this new setting, the rotation factor is replaced by a Handel-Anosov-Katok homeomorphism, thus allowing a wider analysis of dynamical properties. Indeed, with this technique, one can construct spaces with more complicated structures. For example, by using pseudo-suspensions, the authors provide examples of hereditarily indecomposable continua that admit homeomorphisms with positive finite entropy. Moreover, they find a family of minimal, uniformly rigid, and weakly mixing homeomorphism of the pseudo-circle. This method also provides an example of minimal, uniformly rigid, and weakly mixing homeomorphism in dimension one. Results in the paper produce a family of examples satisfying the properties mentioned above, but, unfortunately, it remains open the problem of understanding when lifted homeomorphisms satisfy these conditions. In this respect, the authors conclude the paper with eight open problems, giving to the reader an opportunity for further research on the topic. The article is well structured, well written and I recommend it.
