The \textit{Hom-Yang-Baxter equation} (HYBE) was introduced by \textit{D. Yau} [J. Phys. A, Math. Theor. 42, No. 16, Article ID 165202, 12 p. (2009; Zbl 1179.17001)] motivated by its link with Hom-Lie algebras and Hom-quantum groups. In this paper, the authors investigate left non-degenerate involutive set-theoretic solutions associated to HYBE. Into the specific, it is proved that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between such solutions and an algebraic structure that they introduce, namely, the Hom-cycle set. Finally, some connections between the HYBE and the Yang-Baxter equation are discussed.
