The author considers the following question: if \(M\) is a closed symplectic toric manifold, how many different toric structures does \(M\) support? It is known that in dimension \(4\) the answer is: only finitely many. The first theorem, which draws from ideas of L. Borisov, is that this is true also in higher dimensions with weaker assumptions. Some manifolds, such as the product of two projective spaces of complex dimension at least two, are shown to have a unique symplectic toric structure. On the other hand, a variety of different constructions is given to produce examples with finitely many different toric structures. In the case of monotone toric manifolds, the author conjectures that the symplectic toris structure is unique, and gives some evidence for this.
