It is said that, in the extension theory of \(C^*\)-algebras of \textit{L. G. Brown, R. G. Douglas} and \textit{P. A. Fillmore} [Proc. Conf. Operator Theory, Dalhousie Univ., Halifax 1973, Lect. Notes Math. 345, 58--128 (1973; Zbl 0277.46053)] and [Ann. Math. (2) 105, 265--324 (1977; Zbl 0376.46036)], an extension of a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) by a separable stable \(C^*\)-algebra \(B\) is invertible if it has an inverse, in the sense that there is another extension such that their sum is a split extension, and that in the theory of \textit{J. A. Seebach} and \textit{K. Thomsen} [Adv. Math. 223, No. 5, 1845--1854 (2010; Zbl 1194.46076)], an extension of a \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\) by a separable stable \(C^*\)-algebra \(B\) is semi-invertible (but the name might better be replaced by asymptotically-invertible) if there is another extension such that their sum is asymptotically split. It is shown in the present paper that all extensions of \(A\) by \(B\) are semi-invertible if \(A\) is the reduced group \(C^*\)-algebra of an amalgamated free product of an amenable group and an abelian group over a finite subgroup, or if \(A\) is the amalgamated free product of \(C^*\)-algebras whose extensions by \(B\) are all semi-invertible, over a nuclear \(C^*\)-subalgebra. It is also shown that semi-invertibility of all extensions of \(A\) (as a variable) by \(B\) is stable under taking the direct sum and the tensor products with the \(C^*\)-algebra of all continuous functions on the one-torus or with the \(C^*\)-algebra of all compact operators, and then additional results follow.
