Let \(\Delta_g\) denote the Laplacian on a non-compact Riemannian manifold \((M,g)\) with ends, i.e., \(M\) has a neighbourhood of infinity which is diffeomorphic to \((R,\infty)\times S\), \(S\) compact. In the paper, the typical metric considered is, for \(r>R\), of the form \(g=dr^2+g_S/w(r)^2\) with \(w(r)\) a positive, bounded function satisfying additional assumptions. The case of hyperbolic ends, \(w(r)=e^{-r}\), is included. For a symbol \(\varphi\) of negative order, the author studies the operator \(\varphi(-h^2\Delta_g)\), \(h>0\), defined by the spectral theorem. By constructing a parametrix of the resolvent, it is shown that this operator equals, modulo a remainder \(h^{N+1}R_N(\varphi,h)\), an \(h\)-pseudodifferential operator \(Q_N(\varphi,h)\). In general, \(\varphi(-h^2\Delta_g)\) is not \(L^p\)-bounded for \(p\neq 2\) if \(w(r)\) is not temperate. The author proves weighted \(L^p\to L^p\) estimates however, where the weight contains a power of \(w(r)\).
