In this paper, the author gives a characterization of complete metrizability for topologies of bornological convergence on the hyperspace \(\mathrm{CL}(X)\) of the nonempty closed subsets of a metric pace \((X,d)\). Let \((X,d)\) be a metric space and \(\mathcal{S}\) a bornology, that is, a nonempty collection of nonempty subsets of \(X\) such that \(\mathcal{S}\) is an ideal (i.e., it is closed under taking subsets and finite unions) and covers \(X\). Let \(\tau_\mathcal{S}\) denote the pretopology generated by the neighborhood filter \(\{ [S,\varepsilon] (A) : S \in \mathcal{S},\, \varepsilon>0\}\) at \(A \in\mathrm{CL}(X)\), where \(B_d(A,\varepsilon)=\{x \in X: d(x,A)<\varepsilon \}\) and \N\[\N[S,\varepsilon](A)=\{ C \in\mathrm{CL}(X): S \cap A \subset B_d(C,\varepsilon) \text{ and } S \cap C \subset B_d(A,\varepsilon)\}.\N\]\NLet \((\tilde{X}_d,\tilde{d})\) denote the completion of \(d\). The author proves the following theorem under the continuum hypothesis:\N\NLet \(\mathcal{S}\) be a bornology on \((X,d)\) such that each \(d\)-Cauchy sequence is included in a member of \(\mathcal{S}\). Then \((\mathrm{CL}(X),\tau_\mathcal{S})\) is completely metrizable if and only if \((\mathrm{CL}(X),\tau_\mathcal{S})\) is metrizable, \(X\) is completely metrizable, and \((\tilde{X}_d \setminus X,\tilde{d})\) is separable.\N\NAs a corollary, the author shows that the following statements are equivalent under the continuum hypothesis: (1) \(\mathrm{CL}(X)\) with the Attouch-Wets topology is completely metrizable; (2) \(\mathrm{CL}(X)\) with the Hausdorff metric topology is completely metrizable; (3) \(X\) is completely metrizable and \((\tilde{X}_d \setminus X,\tilde{d})\) is separable.
