The notion of operadic cohomology, first introduced by Markl, gives a general framework which specializes to many cohomology theories of interest, such as Hochschild cohomology. It is typically used for Koszul operads, where the necessary resolutions are readily understood. The goal of this paper is to take steps enabling one to work with operadic cohomology in the non-Koszul setting. The first main result is that operadic cohomology is given by Ext of a category of modules over the given operad \(\mathcal A\); a particular module \(\mathcal{MDA}\) is constructed so that resolving it suffices rather than having to resolve the original \(\mathcal A\). Secondly, a comparison is made with Gerstenhaber-Schack diagram cohomology. Because this cohomology is shown to be isomorphic to the augmented version of operadic cohomology, a particular resolution can be given for \(\mathcal{MDA}\).
