The notion of the parallel transport map over a compact Riemannian symmetric space was introduced by \textit{C. L. Terng} and \textit{G. Thorbergsson} [J. Differ. Geom. 42, No. 3, 665--718 (1995; Zbl 0845.53040)] and \textit{N. Koike} [Kyushu J. Math. 58, No. 1, 167--202 (2004; Zbl 1064.53034)] extended their theory to Riemannian symmetric spaces of non-compact type. In this paper, the author generalizes the concept further to affine symmetric spaces and shows that it is an affine submersion with horizontal distribution in the sense of \textit{N. Abe} and \textit{K. Hasegawa} [Differ. Geom. Appl. 14, No. 3, 235--250 (2001; Zbl 0991.53005)]. Using this result, the author proves that an affine immersion into a Hilbertable space lifted by the parallel transport map is an affine Fredholm immersion of Fredholm index \(0\). He concludes the paper by extending an earlier result on the inverse image of a weakly reflective submanifold of a compact Riemannian symmetric space under the parallel transport map to weakly reflective submanifolds of affine symmetric spaces.
