The notion of Courant algebroids, related to the Dorfman bracket, was introduced by \textit{I. Ya. Dorfman} in [Phys. Lett. A, 125, 5, 240--246 (1987)]. Two Lie algebroids \(A\) and \(B\) over the same base manifold \(M\) are said to form a matched pair when there exist compatible representations of \(A\) on \(B\) and of \(B\) on \(A\) inducing a Lie algebroid structure on the direct sum \(A \bigoplus B\). Based on the works [\textit{J.-H. Lu}, Duke Math. J. 86, No. 2, 261--304 (1997; Zbl 0889.58036); \textit{T. Mokri}, Glasg. Math. J. 39, No. 2, 167--181 (1997; Zbl 0886.22012)], in the present paper, the authors establish the conditions under which a pair of Courant algebroids can be matched. This theory is typified by some classes of examples: Courant algebroids with flat connections, complex manifolds, holomorphic Courant algebroids, and flat regular Courant algebroids. Also, they introduce matched pairs of Dirac structures and show that a matched pair of Dirac structures is a matched pair of Lie algebroids.
