The aim of this paper is to study the maximal \(L^\rho\) regularity of the Cauchy problem of the heat equation \[ \partial_t u-\triangle u=f,\quad u(0,x)=u_0(x) \] in Besov spaces which are not UMD spaces. The main result establishes the endpoint maximal regularity \[ \| \partial_t u\|_{L^\rho(0,T;\dot{B}^0_{1,\rho})} + \| \nabla^2 u\|_{L^\rho(0,T;\dot{B}^0_{1,\rho})} \leq C\left(\| u_0\|_{\dot{B}^{2(1-1/\rho)}_{1,\rho}} +\| f\|_{L^\rho(0,T;\dot{B}^0_{1,\rho})}\right), \] for \(\dot{B}^0_{1,\rho}({\mathbb R}^n)\) with \(1<\rho\leq \infty\), which is a nonreflexive homogeneous Besov space. Special attention is paid to the case \(\rho=2\), and, on \({\mathbb R}^2\), the local existence for large data and global existence for small data are established.
