Nonlinear optimal control theory

From MaRDI portal

The book is a sequel of the classical book by \textit{L. D. Berkovitz} [Optimal Control Theory, Applied Mathematical Sciences 12. New York--Heidelberg--Berlin: Springer-Verlag (1974; Zbl 0295.49001)]. It presents a deep, wide-ranging introduction to the mathematical theory of optimal control of systems of ordinary differential equations and covers the main topics of optimal control theory, including the Pontryagin principle, Bellman's dynamic programming method, and theorems about the existence of optimal controls. In addition the book describes control system models with time delays, and gives an introduction to Hamilton-Jacobi theory. Furthermore, diverse examples from flight mechanics, chemical and electrical engineering, production planning models, and the classical calculus of variations are presented.NEWLINENEWLINEThe book is suitable for graduate students interested in control theory or undergraduate students who have good understanding of functional analysis, and it can be highly recommended to research mathematicians interested in optimal control of ordinary differential equations.
