Abstract: Let denote the field of complex numbers, and fix a nonzero such that . Define a -algebra by generators and relations in the following way. The generators are . The relations assert that each of , , is central in . The algebra is called the universal Askey-Wilson algebra. Let denote a distance-regular graph that has -Racah type. Fix a vertex of and let denote the corresponding subconstituent algebra. In this paper we discuss a relationship between and . Assuming that every irreducible -module is thin, we display a surjective -algebra homomorphism . This gives a action on the standard module of .
