Abstract: Let be a non-polar compact subset of and denote the equilibrium measure of . Furthermore, let be the -th monic orthogonal polynomial for . It is shown that , the Hilbert norm of in , is bounded below by for each . A sufficient condition is given for to be unbounded. More detailed results are presented for sets which are union of finitely many intervals.
