Quantum groups and their representations

From MaRDI portal

The monograph is divided into four parts, and it was the intention of the authors to make them independent as much as possible. Both basic and advanced topics are treated and a number of explicit formulas are presented. Part I may serve as an introduction to the theory of quantum groups and their representations. The ideas are illustrated on the simplest examples of the Hopf algebras \(U_q(sl_2)\) and \(SL_q(2)\). There are also sections included that are devoted to \(q\)-special functions and to \(q\)-oscillator algebras. Part II is concerned with the quantized universal enveloping algebras as introduced by Drinfeld and Jimbo. Besides the basic definitions, the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt Theorem is presented and Verma modules and the quantum Killing form are introduced. Finite-dimensional representations are treated for both the cases when \(q\) is not or is a root of unity. The treated topics include decomposition of tensor products of representations and Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, existence and uniqueness of crystal bases, and representations expressed in Gel'fand-Tsetlin bases. A special section is devoted to quasitriangular Hopf algebras and to the explicit form of the universal \(R\)-matrix. The universal \(R\)-matrix makes it possible to introduce so called \(L\)-operators and \(L\)-functionals which represent in fact a generalization of the Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan approach to the quantized enveloping algebras. Part III is concerned with quantized algebras of functions living on a Lie group. The discussed examples include, of course, the quantum groups \(GL_q(N)\) and \(SL_q(N)\), \(O_q(N)\) and \(Sp_q(N)\), and their real forms. The duality between the quantized algebras of functions and the quantized enveloping algebras is considered as well. Particularly the notion of a coquasitriangular bialgebra is dual to the property of quasitriangularity. Furthermore, the construction of a quantum double and codouble is described and the braided Hopf algebras are presented. A section is devoted to corepresentations, particularly for compact quantum groups which may be treated, following Woronowicz, in the framework of \(C^\ast\)-algebras. The quantum analogues of the classical results like Peter-Weyl decomposition and existence and uniqueness of the Haar measure are explained. Finally the authors deal briefly with quantum homogeneous spaces, especially with some particular examples like that of the quotient \(U_q(N-1)\setminus U_q(N)\). Part IV provides a systematic treatment of the noncommutative differential calculus. Naturally the fundamental results due to Woronowicz on covariant differential calculus on quantum groups and higher order bicovariant calculus are included. But in addition some recent results and constructions of bicovariant differential calculi are presented.
