The paper is dealing with a free boundary value problem that models microelectromechanical systems. The model involves a singular nonlocal reaction term and a nonlinear curvature term, and depends on the parameter \(\lambda>0\) that characterizes the applied voltage. It is shown that, under certain conditions, solutions develop a singularity in finite time provided \(\lambda\) is sufficiently large.
