Compact Kähler manifolds satisfy the \(\partial \bar{\partial}\) lemma, i.e., a \(\partial\)-closed, \(\bar{\partial}\)-closed, \(d\)-exact form is \(\partial \bar{\partial}\)-exact. This may not hold for compact non-Kähler manifolds and it is thus interesting to know when it holds or to what extent it fails to do so. On non-Kähler manifolds, one has the Bott-Chern and the Aeppli cohomologies. If the \(\partial \bar{\partial}\) lemma holds, then the Bott-Chern cohomology coincides with the Dolbeault cohomology. In this paper the authors explicitly calculate the dimensions of the Bott-Chern cohomology groups for certain 6-dimensional nilmanifolds (i.e. quotients of nilpotents Lie groups) endowed with some invariant complex structures (Theorem 2.1). In addition, in theorem 4.1 the authors characterise the nilpotent complex manifolds that admit invariant pluriclosed metrics (i.e. hermitian metrics that are \(\partial \bar{\partial}\)-closed).
