The authors introduce a geometric flow on a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary in order to construct, in a given conformal class $[g_0]$, metrics with prescribed scalar curvature in the interior and prescribed mean curvature for the boundary. They are able to complete this program under the assumptions that both the prescribed scalar curvature and the prescribed mean curvature of the boundary are negative functions, and moreover that a global conformal invariant $Q(M,\partial M)$ depending only on the conformal class $[g_0]$ is negative. Under these assumptions, they show that the flow of the prescribed scalar curvature and mean curvature exists for all time and converges to a smooth metric with the desired properties.
