The purpose of this survey is to review the existing approximate-linearization approaches and techniques in the last 15 years and to provide some perspective on the new trends recently emerging in the field. The considered approximate-linearization methods are classified according to the following scheme: partial-linearization techniques, linearization-oriented modeling, nonlinearity measures and linear model-matching. These four classes are briefly presented and discussed, and corresponding references are given.
