Let \(G\) be a bounded simply connected domain in \({\mathbb C}\) and let \(\Omega \) be the exterior of the closure \(\overline { G}\) of \(G\). Furthermore, the univalent conformal map of \(\Omega \) onto \(\{w:\, |w|>1\}\) with the expansion \(\phi _1 z+\phi _0+\phi _{-1}z^{-1}+\cdots \) at infinity is denoted by \(\phi \). The authors investigate the behavior of \(\phi ^{\prime}(z) \, \phi ^n(z)\) in compact subsets of \(\Omega\) in comparison with the behavior of orthonormal polynomials in \(L^2(G)\). The second main result (Theorem 1.2) concerns the Bergman shift operator in \(L ^2(G)\). Besides, the authors consider the Grunsky matrix \(C\) with respect to \(\phi^{-1}\) from the viewpoint of the spectral norm of \(C\).
