Let \(H^{t,p} (\mathbb {R}^n)\), \(t\geq 0\), \(1<p<\infty\), be the usual fractional Sobolev spaces. Then the (pointwise) multiplier space \(X^t_{r,p} (\mathbb {R}^n)\) collects all \(f\) such that \[ \| f \, | X^t_{r,p} (\mathbb {R}^n) \| = \sup \big\{ \| fg \, | H^{t,p} (\mathbb {R}^n) \|: \;\|g \, | H^{t+r,p} (\mathbb {R}^n) \| \leq 1 \big\} \] \(r >0\), \(r+t <n/p\), is finite. Characterizations of \(X^t_{r,p} (\mathbb {R}^n)\) in terms of capacity are known and have been studied in detail by Maz'ya, Shaposhnikova and other researchers. It is the main aim of the paper to contribute to this topic in the context of Meyer wavelets. This is done in particular in terms of (logarithmic) Morrey smoothness spaces as a nearby substitute of \(X^t_{r,p} (\mathbb {R}^n)\). The results are applied to Schrödinger operators.
